Allison Signs Agreement with Engine Supplier

Developing electric and hybrid vehicles became a priority for most automakers and, apparently, transmission builders. Delivering companies or government agencies are only two examples of organizations that ordered fleets of electric and hybrid trucks, so such vehicles are also under development.

Allison Transmission just signed a 10 year contract with Remy International, an electric motors producer. The agreement stipulates that Remy will provide Remy HVH410 electric motors to be used in the new Allison Transmission Commercial Hybrid Truck Program.

"Our agreement with Remy was a very important step in our efforts to deliver the best performing and most economically viable hybrid truck solution," Allison Transmission CEO, Lawrence E. Dewey said in a statement. "Remy, like Allison, has a long history of engineering excellence and innovation. We are pleased to build upon our strong relationship with Remy as we provide a much needed hybrid solution for the commercial truck industry," Dewey continued.

The HVH410 is an electric motor used for medium heavy duty and off-highway hybrid and electric vehicles. Due to its high torque and power density, the engine also offers the potential for a smaller internal combustion engine in hybrid vehicles.

"Allison continues to demonstrate they are an innovation leader in transmission systems for commercial vehicles. We have had the privilege of working with Allison on hybrid bus applications and are now looking forward to a long partnership in the hybrid commercial truck sector,"
said Remy CEO John Weber. "By utilizing Remy's technology expertise and long time experience in electric motors, Allison can focus their resources on the broader challenge of developing a world-class hybrid powertrain for commercial vehicles."

Both companies will manufacture products in the US.
