Cupra is one of the youngest brands on the market, so it doesn't have a lot of products to brag with. But If we are to credit the company with anything, it's the cool naming scheme chosen for its cars.
Earlier this year, we had the Formentor and now, a week or so away from the opening of the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, in comes the Tavascan.

Whereas the Formentor shown in Geneva in March was a plug-in hybrid, the Tavascan goes all the way electric, hinting at the direction the brand would like to take once its matures some more.

As all future cars coming from the brand of the VAG Group, this too is based on the Volkswagen MEB platform. The car is shaped like a large SUV with coupe lines and a very aggressive and elevated stance. The front looks like no other Spanish-made car we've seen, very sharp and mean, with the Cupra logo looking like a marking of an alien language low on the front bumper.

Overall, the Tavascan concept is like nothing the Spanish have ever made (including the SEAT brand from which Cupra separated). That's why it's unlikely we'll get to see the extreme design lines on a production car anytime soon. (as a side note, the Formentor will get a production version next year).

Inside, the 3D leather relief bucket seats stand in front of a wing-shaped dashboard, adorned at the center with a large 13-inch touchscreen. In front of the steering wheel there's a 12.3-inch instrument cluster display.

Underneath it all, the Tavascan hides two electric motors mounted front and rear. Combined, the two motors deliver 306 ps and can accelerate to 100 kph (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds.

Feeding power to the two is a 77 kWh lithium-ion battery. Housed under the floor of the concept, it can keep the motors spinning for 450 km (280 miles).

The concept will be shown in public for the first time later this month, at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show.
