The image of the American traffic cop, with his aviator glasses and typical attitude has been pounded into our heads by movies, cartoons, ads etc. However, it may be a thing of the past, as Zero Motorcycles has designed a new electric motorbike specially for police use.
The Zero DS Police Motorcycle has everything the average cop would need, like powerful lights, sirens, shotgun mount and side satchels for the extra ammo. It would make cops’ lives easier, by allowing them to literally sneak up on the purps and do their thing with the element of surprise on their side.
According to Mark Cummings, Zero’s Manager of fleet sales, "Police officers put their lives on the line every day to protect and serve, so our goal was to give them all the tools necessary to allow them to be successful. The resulting Zero DS Police Motorcycle opens up new patrolling possibilities."
What’s left now is to start modifying Nissan Leafs for police duty and replace the gas-guzzling Crown Victorias which are now standard-issue. We think this is an excellent idea which should be embraced by the police forces of America in an effort to catch more bad guys and be green at the same time.
