With the biggest auto event of the fall set to open its gates on its home turf next month, French brand DS had to up the stakes a bit and bring to Porte de Versailles at least one exciting model. The Citroen spin-off, however, went above and beyond and plans several premieres for the show.
The most recent crossover from the DS brand, the DS3 Crossback, will make its way to the event to showcase its extensive array of personalization options. But most importantly, it will bring to light for the first time the electric powertrain which will go on sale in mid-2019.
Called DS3 Crossback E-Tense, the model will have a range of about 200 miles (320 km) as tested under WLTP. Power will come from a 50 KW electric battery that would feed the single electric motor capable of developing 136 hp.
The E-Tense approach will also be visible on the plug-in hybrid version of the DS7 Crossback which will also be on the floor in Paris. This model pairs a 200 hp PureTech petrol engine with two 80kW electric motors.
The electric aspirations of the brand will be on site as the X E-Tense, an asymmetrical concept car designed for the year 2035. The most striking feature of the E-Tense is the fact that the two people in it, on the right and left sides of the vehicle, are offset from one another.
A Formula E car, the DS E-Tense FE19, will make a stand at the brand’s booth as the next generation racer in the world’s first racing series dedicated to electric vehicles. Its first on-track outing will take place in December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
“At this year's Paris Motor Show, DS Automobiles writes a new chapter in its history with four world premieres and shows that its future begins now with Electrification at the core of the DS product strategy,” said in a statement Yves Bonnefont, DS CEO.
“As of 2025, all new DS models will be exclusively available in electrified versions.”
