Electric Chevrolet Spark in the Works

General Motors is reportedly preparing a joint venture with Bangalore-based Reva Electric Car Company that could lead to an electric version of the Chevrolet Spark. GM India could sign an agreement with electric car manufacturing company Reva in the near future, with the Indian firm to supply electric vehicle technology for such a model. According to The Economic Times, the model would be sold in Indian and in overseas markets. "We have been pursuing opportunities for commercial application of alternative fuel options, including bio-diesel, jatropha arrangement with CSMCRI (Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute), electric, fuel cell, hydrogen etc, with many parties for quite some time," said GM India’s vice-president of corporate affairs, P Balendran. "Our efforts are ongoing and we have nothing to announce as of now. As soon as we finalise our plans for introduction of any alternative fuel solutions, we will announce the same," he added. The source wrote that GM India and Reva have already agreed on a number of terms of the deal, but the 50-50 joint venture is still expecting the go-ahead from the US-based parent company. Reva will showcase the company's latest contraptions, the NXR sporty two-seat with targa roof and the NXG, at the Frankfurt Auto Show this week.
