As if aftermarket developers were afraid Nissan would end R35 GT-R production, which should happen in one or two years from now, tuners are now going crazy in their attempt to deliver new GT-R quarter mile world records.
After last month saw Bahrain-based Ekanoo Racing grabbing the trophy with their monstrous R35 pulling a 7.44s run at 200 mph (322.5 km/h), the team has done it again earlier this week.
In fact, they had already beaten their record, but we've waited for a more significant difference to be made and such a move hasn't failed to show up.
After going through a 7.302s moment out there on the drag strip, Ekanoo Racing has now managed to pull a 7.265s run at 204 mph (328.18 km/h). And things won't end here.
Having just seen that, we're not just expecting the crew to pursue the six-second goal, which, admittedly, is just around the corner. These guys have constantly been improving themselves, with the GT-R being just one of the records that currently sit in their trophy cabinet.
Their GT-R was built by T1 Race Development and while we don't know its exact output, we'll remind you the tuner said it would deliver at least 2,276 hp at the wheels back in October last year.
Don't expect the GT-R 1/4-mile battle to be over, though. The tuner that used to hold the record, US-based AMS Performance, may have kept its Alpha Omega development car out of the spotlights lately, but there's a reason for that.
You see, Alpha Omega kept the factory location for the turbos, which limits the size of the units they can use. However, we can't say the same about AMS' latest project, the Alpha G.
Having been built for a loyal customer, the Alpha G, which was previewed earlier this month, obviously aims to take back the record. And with over 2,500 horses generated with the help of twin, nose-mounted Garrett GTX turbos, it might just hit its target.
