Eight Drivers Might Be Hiding Behind The Stig

With the recent news that Ben Collins would be the hidden driver behind The Stig's white leather suit, Top Gear's fans probably thought one of the most obsessive questions regarding the show has been answered. However, the mystery seems to be still floating in the air as apparently there might be more than one driver playing the controversial role in the famous motor show.

A recent article on Daily Mail suggests that there might be no less than eight drivers testing cars around the Top Gear track. Although is nothing official as BBC has always refused to comment on the identity of the mysterious character, Ben Collins is only one of the eight drivers that the famous motor show has employed for playing the Stig.

The second driver is the man BBC itself claimed to be the Stig.  He was spotted by paparazzi entering the studio late at night and photographed going out from the building in jeans and tee-shirt with a distinctive tight-fitting “Arai” motor-racing woolly hat pulled over his head. Could it be pure coincidence?

Another driver playing the Stig is Heikki Kovalainen, the 27-year-old Finnish Formula One McLaren driver who drove a Renault Formula One racing car round the Top Gear track in 2004.

In addition, former GT world championship racing driver  Chris Goodwin  and 47-year-old former Formula One racing driver Julian Bailey have also starred as the Stig. Not less important is the stunt driver Terry Grant who has also put on the white racing leathers to play the mysterious character of Top Gear.

Stunt driver Russ Swift is another who has starred as the Stig in the famous motor show. Last but surely not the least, Dan Lang, a Swedish snow mobile racing champion played the Stig in a Top Gear stunt where he jumped a snow mobile off a ski jump.

But how did we get to such an impressive number of drivers? Well, it seems that a source on the show noticed that the height of the Stig in different photos. “In some he looks a lot taller than others. People have become obsessed with finding who the Stig is but they have not considered that it is possible that it is more than one person,” the source said.

So far we don't know whether Top Gear wants to keep the mystery over their racing driver by triggering speculations, but we tend to agree there may be more than one driver hiding behind the Stig.
