EICMA: Montesa 4RIDE Makes You Want to Quit Your Job and Ride the Mountains

4RIDE is the latest addition to Montesa's line-up and it could become a strong seller in case the reliability is on par with its attitude and looks. By far, the two main things that make the Montesa 4RIDE so appealing are its off-road capabilities and the fact that it is also a tame, road-legal bike.

These two turn the 4RIDE into the perfect all-rounder for weekend fun, and why not, even for some city brawling, as well. The Montesa 4RIDE clearly isn't the first choice if making a holeshot start from the traffic light ranks high on your list. But if you are a practical rider, this machine certainly can make ends meet.

A 258.9 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine sits at the heart of the 4RIDE and its fuel efficiency should give you as much as 120 km (74.5 miles) of two-wheeled fun from the 4.4-liter (1.15 US gal) tank.Suspension for both on and off the road complement the transmission gearing
Montesa says they happily married excellent terrainability to the on-road confidence. The off-road forks used received a longer travel and refined settings to deliver better grip on any surface.

And since the 4RIDE might also meet the highway, the transmission was regeared. Longer gears are now part of the game, improving on-street character for a more pleasurable all-round use. Tall riders may feel a bit uncomfortable and might need taller bar risers, though.

There is something about the Montesa 4RIDE that reminds us about KTM's Freeride bikes, however, and it's not only the commercials that were sort of copied after KTM's. While this is a matter for those interested more in the marketing subtleties, we totally loved the 4RIDE.

As for the price, €7,500 may be a bit steep, but this depends only on how much time you spend in the wild, off the tarmac.
