EICMA: 2016 BMW G310R Will Be a Hit , Live Photos

We knew that BMW might show its all-new small-displacement bike at EICMA after the stunt motorcycle derived from it broke cover recently. The confirmation arrived last week, when Munich revealed the first official high-res photos and videos and technically launched the model for the online publications.

G310R is the small-displacement debut for BMW, and we can reckon that the Germans wanted this bike to look and feel as good as possible. We haven't ridden it so far, but on the aesthetic side, Munich hit the bullseye.

Whoever came up with the idea to make the G310R look like the S1000R deserves a raise, if you ask us, together with those who designed the final looks. One of the major drawbacks of small-displacement bikes is that manufacturers usually cut too many corners in their quest for a lower production price.

We've seen the Harley-Davidson Street 750 up-close last year at the Milan show and were disappointed in the quality of the materials and finish. On the other hand, this didn't happen with the Yamaha YZF-R3, a bike that surprised us in the most pleasant way.

If BMW can deliver more bikes like the G310R, we might see a whole new generation of riders going for the German machines, especially if a small-displacement adventure motorcycle will also be in the future line-up of the brand.

A sleek learner bike that can still be used as an economical commuter

BMW had nothing to offer to new riders until now, but man, the wait was worth it. The G310R is a great first bike, but it will also be able to serve more experienced riders. Packing 34 hp at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm (20.6 lb-ft) of torque at 7,500 rpm, the BMW G310R is fit for more than beginners, and thanks to its slender profile it represents a major advantage in slow urban traffic.

The 34 hp figure doesn't make it a racer, but is more than enough to lose the license in the city. ABS is standard in Europe, and the neutral ergonomics also make it a neat choice for overnight or longer trips, as well.
