The Thrux was one of the iconic cafe-racers that were still in production and which exhibited the authentic retro style combined with present-day power figures. Things are just getting better and better, as the new generation of Thruxton machines boldly steps into the future, loaded with new technologies and promising a better experience.
Just like the new Bonneville, the 2016 Thruxton is powered by the all-new liquid-cooled 1200cc-class engine. The architecture remains the same, with a parallel twin design, but improved power, torque and fuel efficiency.

The Thrux' engine is a bit gruntier than the Bonnie's power plant, at least in terms of torque. The mill delivers 120 Nm (88.4 lb-ft) of torque at 4.950 rpm, adding a modern-day vibe to riding this bike.

Triumph also revised the chassis and the suspension of the bike and we are thrilled to see that the R-spec model comes with inverted Showa Big Piston Forks and top-of-the-line Ohlins rear shocks.

Both bikes arrive with ABS as standard, but we totally love the Brembo monoblock calipers with radial mount on the R version of the Thruxton. We also know that this also brings up the price, so implementing these solutions as standard would have been less lucrative.

Electronics cleverly camouflaged under the retro design

As the Thrux and Bonnie share the same platform, it's easy to understand that the former is also equipped with the electronic goodies of the latter. This includes ride-by-wire and traction control, plus riding modes, but the Thrux adds a new Sport mapping to the existing Road and Rain.

Hybrid analog-LCD dual gauges are also in place for the Thrux, as well as Daytime Riding Lights, LED taillight, and engine immobilizer. Both bikes retain the USB charging port.

Triumph prepared a generous list of aftermarket parts and accessories for the Triumph Thruxton and its R-specced sibling, and riders willing to spend some extra cash can truly take home a bike with exquisite looks.

Hinckley's new generation of Thruxton machines is doubtlessly the best-looking one since the advent of the Modern Classics. We are waiting to see how they behave on the street. If Triumph solved the suspension issue, we might be dealing with the niftiest modern cafe-racer around.
