EICMA 2010: KTM 1190 RC8 R & 1190 RC8 R "Track"

Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM is showcasing its 1190 RC8 R sport bike at the 2010 EICMA motorcycle show. The 1190 RC8 was KTM's first ever superbike design and its concept was first released in 2005.

The bike boasts a slim and angular design, painted matte black, giving the rider the feeling he's actually flying a stealth fighter and trying to evade the radar.

Like its European competitor, Ducati, KTM's high-end superbike is powered by a liquid-cooled V-twin but the cylinders are set at a more unconventional 75-degree angle for a more compact arrangement. KTM claims that the power output from its own designed and built V2 is 150 hp. No matter what the power delivered at the rear wheel is, it is far greater than 99% of riders can handle.

KTM built its own frame from large-tube steel, but imported high-end components from world leaders like Brembo and Marchesini. An innovative feature of the RC8 R is the underfloor exhaust system. It provides for optimum performance, a low centre of gravity and minimum noise level.

Adjustability is a key feature on the RC8. KTM turned aside from the one-size-fits-all philosophy with a variety of ways to custom fit the bike to its rider.

Also on display at the EICMA show in Milan we spotted the "Track" version of the RC8 R which is a pure bred sports-oriented bike. The “Track” directly developed and produced by the RC8 Motorsport Department is the perfect two cylinder Superbike for hobby riders - like those competing in various championships.
