Car sharing is a system through which you rent a car for personal use, often for just a couple of hours, instead of having to put up with the costs of actually owning a car. It is an idea that has been around for some time now, so it comes as no surprise that someone has thought about combining it with zero emissions driving.
This EDAG Light Car Sharing concept follows in the footsteps of the Light Car concept EDAG brought to the Geneva auto show two years ago. This year’s concept comes with an onboard GPS-guided system that promises to improve the efficiency and sophistication of the car sharing scheme, as the service provider is now able to track the locations of its vehicles and coordinate their scheduling.
The minimalist interior of the Light Car offers only the most basic of features: accelerator, brake, steering wheel and a lever to operate the indicators. The driver gets the information he needs about speed, range and battery charge through the central display and there is enough room for six people.
Despite its boxy exterior look, the concept comes with very practical sliding doors and can seat up to six passengers while also offering entry through a rear door. It is built using modular components for everything from the seats to the body panels and batteries. They are made of fiber composites and lightweight plastics, in order to keep the vehicle light and agile.
