We never miss a chance to check out what Jay Leno has to say, but when we saw he had put on a sharp suit and his shirt wasn't denim, we knew something was going on.
Today's episode of Jay Leno's Garage is all about the Elmiraj Concept which was on display at Pebble Beach. Everybody who's been around GM official and this car say things along the lines of "well, nowadays concept cars are not so outlandish and have a good chance of entering production". Jay is no different, and when Edward Welburn pops in for a chat we hear something really unexpected.
"Still a concept, but you know gives us an opportunity to do something different for the brand. Big coup', I love my CTS coup', but the interior space and the grace and the proportions of this vehicle (the Elmiraj) is to die for," say mister Welburn.
That to me sounds like a confirmation, since previous reports suggested Cadillac would drop the CTS wagon for good and the CTS will be replaced with something different. “The fact that we offer coupes and wagons, that’s going to continue,” said Don Butler, the VP of marketing for Cadillac back in April 2012. “I’m not saying that will necessarily continue forward in the way we’re doing it today.”
Basically, the Elmiraj is going to be Cadillac' next coupe, bigger and better, featuring its unique design that allows it to take on the BMW 6 Series and eventually the M6.
Ed Welburn is GM's Vice President in charge of global design. He was responsible for the exterior of the new Corvette and, of course oversaw the 2014 CTS.
I'm pretty much happy with what I've heard here, so I'll let you guys watch the video and enjoy this sexy new 2013 Elmiraj Concept. Tell us what you think and what you'd change. Personally, I love the fact that it has no B-pillars, but think it lacks sportiness.
