Ed Carpenter Joins Sarah Fisher Racing for 2011 IndyCar Series

Ed Carpenter will switch back to a full-time schedule in the 2011 IndyCar Series, after Sarah Fisher Racing confirmed the signing of the 29-year old for the upcoming campaign of the open-wheeled racing series. The Indianapolis-born racer will therefore replace Sarah Fisher throughout the season, as she will focus on her role as team owner.

This will be the first IndyCar campaign Sarah Fisher will leave her car completely to take care exclusively of her team ownership duties. And signing Carpented, the starter of 6 races in 2010 and pole sitter in the Kentucky race last season, came at the perfect time, she argued.

This change in my career is a direction I have been thinking about very hard,” Fisher said in a statement for the media on Monday. “The timing is perfect for the strategy of SFR in its future endeavours. To have the support of all our partners in this direction is incredible.”

I am glad to have the support of our partners, including Dollar General, who have led us to where we are today. I know this team has what it takes to perform and I am hoping with the decision to put Ed in the seat, that we can do just that. By stepping out of the seat, I will be able to spend more time growing this team in the right directions both on and off track.”

Carpenter will therefore be part of SFR's single-car effort for the 2011 IndyCar Series, as he returns to full-time Indy driving after one year of doing selected events for Panther Racing. The last time he did a full campaign in the series was back in 2009, when he took 12th place overall with Vision Racing.

I am so honoured to have to opportunity to come drive for SFR and Dollar General. I have been friends with Sarah and [her husband and team partner] Andy [O'Gara] for a long time, and am really looking forward to working with their team. Sarah and I come from such similar backgrounds; I know that it will be a joy to work with her team,” added Carpenter.
