Ecclestone Vows to Improve F1 Show, but after China

With everybody going nuts about the lack of show in Formula One – after only one race in the 2010 series – the championship's executive Bernie Ecclestone insisted that no one should panic in the wake of the new-formula racing. Obviously, the refueling ban did not make the first race of the new season more exciting, but Ecclestone insisted that everybody should wait for a few more races in order to issue warning signs about it.

As far as the 79-year old Brit is concerned, what happened in Bahrain was just the teams getting used to the new regulations. This is why there was so little overtaking inside the Top 10, as everyone was trying to position themselves somewhere in the field for the opening race of 2010.

The first race with new regulations was always going to be a learning curve for them all. Now they know they can make improvements and be a bit bolder and we will get more action,” said Ecclestone, according to Autosport.

I think there is nothing we can do immediately and we should not just knee-jerk into changes,” insisted the F1 boss.

He added that only after the first 4 races of the season will have passed – meaning soon after the Chinese GP, when F1 will head to Europe – the members of the FOTA and the FIA should get together and figure out how to get rid of the boring races (if any).

It wasn't the sort of race that would excite most people I would suppose. But I think we ought to judge these things a little later on. It's a bit early. We ought to wait until we come back from China,” said Ecclestone in an interview with PA Sport.

While agreeing that a second mandatory pit stop per race should work in the right direction, Ecclestone did not let go of some weird proposals, such as installing a few shortcuts on the track for the drivers to use on a limited amount of times during a race.

I'm pushing, but sometimes people don't understand these things too well, they don't see the advantages. It would be good for TV, and you'd get a lot of excitement out of it,” added Ecclestone.
