Ecclestone Sustains Head Injuries in Robbery Attempt

Once the 2010 season of Formula One has finished, Bernie Ecclestone has more spare time to spend with his new girlfriend Fabiana Flosi back in London. And while that's usually a good and healthy thing for most people, the F1 supremo found the negative side of that on Wednesday, when taking a walk with Flosi at 10.30 PM.

The 80-year old Englishman was the victim of a mugging attempt (which unfortunately succeeded) on Wednesday night, when 4 attackers “punched and kicked him as they stole watches and jewelry” as reported by the GMM news agency, citing The Sun. According to the same source, Ecclestone sustained minor head injuries in the process and had to be rushed to the hospital.

It did not take long for the F1 chief executive to get back to work, as he was seen in his office first thing the next morning. That's when several photographs of Ecclestone showed a red mark on his right hand.

There can be little doubt this was a targeted robbery because of who Mr Ecclestone is. The muggers were callous and showed little regard for the victims. They need to be caught,” said a senio police source, according to The Sun.

Formula One figures seem to be in the center of such mugging or even kidnapping attempts, as Jenson Button was recently rescued from an armed rubbery during the course of the Brazilian GP. Curiously enough, Ecclestone had this to say when finding out what happened to the McLaren driver.

They look for victims, they look for anyone who looks like a soft touch and not too bright. People who look a bit soft and simple, they will always have a go at,” Ecclestone told reporters in Sao Paolo.
