Ecclestone Supports Todt for FIA Presidency

After Max Mosley, Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone also announced his public support for former Ferrari-an Jean Todt for the presidency of the FIA. Talking to the media in Singapore, the 78-year old Brit expressed his belief that the Frenchman is more prepared to take the job than his counter-candidate, former WRC champion Ari Vatanen.

I have known Jean for many years. He is a most reliable, gifted and trustworthy person. He is determined and dedicated to whatever goals he sets himself and I admire and respect him greatly for everything he has achieved,” said Ecclestone earlier today.

The FIA needs a president that is strong, capable and with experience at the highest levels of motorsport. Jean is by far the most knowledgeable and capable candidate for this vitally important role. I hope everybody will support his candidacy,” added the Brit.

Ecclestone's comments come only hours after the Bahraini Motor Federation (BMF), through president Sheikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, revealed their public support for the Frenchman. According to a statement from Al Khalifa, the priorities of the BMF for the upcoming 4 years are hand in hand with the ones expressed by Todt in recent weeks.

Jean Todt and his team, we believe, most fully demonstrate these values and vision, as well as a wealth of accompanying experience. I am pleased to announce that, as a result, the Bahrain Motor Federation will be supporting Jean Todt's candidacy,” said the Bahraini official.

Also, according to a report from British magazine Autosport, several promoters of the World Rally, World Touring Car and FIA GT Championships are also backing the former Ferrari boss for the FIA job. The elections are to take place in mid-October.
