“I promise we will be in Montreal in 2010. Everyone in Formula One loves the Canadian grand prix,” confirmed Ecclestone for Switzerland's Motorsport Aktuell. When asked about some alternative venues for hosting an F1 event in North America – for example the IMS – the series' boss was quite clear.
“Forget Indianapolis. We're not going back there,” added Bernie.
The announcement doesn't come as quite a shock to anybody, however, especially since it was confirmed that Fuji Speedway and (most probably) Hockenheim Ring will not continue to host F1 races from 2010 onwards. Also, as part of the FIA – FOTA peace a few weeks ago, it was decided that historical venues will be given a chance to make a return to F1 (or given an extra support to stay) in the years to come.
As far as the British Grand Prix goes, Ecclestone also assured his countrymen that Formula One will not leave the island any time soon. Despite reports that Donington Park might not be able to fulfill its duties as future host of the British event, Ecclestone is positive that at least one other circuit could replace the Leicestershire track in F1.
“We will be there (at Donington). If not, then we will be staying in Silverstone,” added the F1 supremo.
