Ecclestone Believes Brawn Should Be Knighted

If anything, the 2009 Formula One season has showed us how a true champion can once again influence the title fight in the Great Circle. After taking a sabbatical following his immense success at Ferrari, Ross Brawn came to Honda and built a title winning car in a matter of months.

He had a game plan in his mind from the moment he set foot at Brackley, and delivered bravely through the upcoming 2 years. Knowing that there would be senseless fighting for a few points in 2008, he focused fully on developing a competitive car for the upcoming season. Following Honda's withdrawal, he tried everything to get it on the grid, and eventually managed to save the team in the eleventh hour.

After that, he managed to maintain equilibrium within the team when veteran Rubens Barrichello started to express his frustration over failing to win in a race-winning car. Unlike at McLaren a couple of years ago, the two drivers battled for the title but still managed to keep the team on top of the standings, bringing both titles to Brackley with one round to go.

For all that, Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone believes Brawn deserves to be knighted. Especially since the “Big Bear” returned to his winning ways after guiding Michael Schumacher to all of his 7 world titles at Bennetton and Ferrari through the duration of 2 decades (mid-90s and the first half of this decade).

Royal recognition is all too rare in our sport, but it would be well deserved if offered to the right man. And to honor Ross would be only right and proper,” said Ecclestone, according to the Sunday Express.

Queen Elizabeth II is the only person who can knight Ross Brawn with the “Sir” title, but that move was never brought into discussion within the UK royalty just yet. In case that happens, Brawn would be honored with a knighthood for his services to British motor racing through the last 2 decades.
