Earnhardt Ganassi Racing to Field 4 cars at Daytona

Earnhardt Ganassi Racing will field 4 cars in the upcoming Daytona 500 race – on February the 15th – as announced by team president Steve Lauletta. The No 41 Chevrolet is yet to find out its driver for the season opener, but Lauletta revealed that the searching has been cut down to only 2 drivers, as reported by Nascar News.

“We're hoping by Monday. We came close to making a final decision Friday. We need to work over the weekend and Monday, but it'll be pretty quick,” said the EGR president when asked when will the company announce the name of their 4th drivers in the famous Daytona race.

The No 41 entry will therefore join Juan Montoya, Martin Truex Jr. and Aric Almirola in the EGR lineup for the Daytona 500 race. The first 2 drivers have already secured sponsorship for the upcoming Sprint Cup Series, while Almirola is still waiting for confirmation of a sponsorship that would guarantee him a full-time schedule in the 2009 Sprint Cup. According to Lauletta, Almirola's sponsorship problems will also be settled on Monday.

“It's just a matter of what we have locked in versus what do we have that we're working on that we're confident is going to happen. The biggest piece of the puzzle that we haven't been able to see yet is how we're going to perform on the track.”

“If all three cars are running really well, that's going to help us get some of the sponsorship arrangements done faster. As I said to everybody when we had our team meeting, let's put all of the 'stuff' of the sport behind us. We know what we're going to do. We know what our plan is. So now let's just focus all our efforts and resources and everything we can on the performance side of things,” added Lauletta.
