Ever since Toyota started teasing the GR Supra, we all knew that BMW would have a lot to do with the all-new model. The Bavarian influence also translated to an eight-speed automatic from ZF Friedrichshafen, the only transmission available for the Japanese sports car that Magna Steyr builds in Austria.
Chief engineer Tetsuya Tada even had the audacity to claim that manual-centric customers should buy the 86 instead, a totally different sports car from the GR Supra in plenty of ways. But EAG owner Art Bartosik knows better than Toyota and the engineering team, deciding to develop a manual swap for “around $12,000 for parts and labor.” Yes, ladies and gents, you’ve heard that right!

In an exclusive interview with Car Buzz, European Auto Group confirmed that the process will take “between 30 to 45 days to complete.” Pre-orders are now open, and the initial deposit amounts to $6,000. Original parts from BMW are utilized for the swap, and EAG will be helped by ProTuning Freaks for a power bump of the B58 inline-six turbocharged engine of Bavarian origin.

The Canadian partner looks forward to either 420 or 430 horsepower, a healthy increase from the 335-horsepower rating that comes as standard. Bartosik owned a few BMWs tuned by ProTuning Freaks, putting “over 40,000 miles on them with no issues” according to the founder and owner of EAG.

If you heard the name before, that’s because the European Auto Group is the outfit behind the gated manual transmission swap for the Ferrari 430 Scuderia and 458 Italia. Given these circumstances, EAG certainly knows how to squeeze every bit of driver enjoyment out of the six-speeder in the GR Supra.

Pricing of the Z4 in drags is $49,990 before destination charge, and the first 1,500 units heading to the United States feature the Launch Edition treatment at $55,250. Regardless of trim level, it’s hard to escape the fact that most vents of the GR Supra, including those on the hood and the ones next to the doors, are fake.
