Some of the biggest names in showbiz have agreed to take a televised ride with James Corden for his insanely popular segment Carpool Karaoke. You might have noticed that Kanye West, aka Yeezus himself, was never among them.
That’s not for lack of trying on Corden’s part, the TV talk show host revealed during a chat with Kris Jenner, for a new segment called Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts. Kris is now acting manager for Kanye, and while her appearance is promotion for the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality show, it also yielded an interesting piece of information.
For instance, did you know that production for each episode costs $45,000? Neither did we, but Corden let that one slip while talking about how Kanye canceled on him 3 times. Apparently, one of those times happened just minutes before they started shooting.
“He canceled once as I was turning the corner to his house. I was in a car, and by the time the call finished, I was sat outside his house, and they were like, ‘He’s not in the zone for it right now. We’ll do it another time’,” Corden explains.
Kanye acting unprofessional is not surprising behavior from the rapper, but this is: he actually apologized later that day.
“He did send me a lovely gift,” Corden continues. “He sent me these incredible flowers in a cube… and he sent me a pair of Yeezys. And people were like, ‘Whoa, they’re so expensive.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, they cost my show $45,000.’”
Most Carpool Karaoke episodes are about the stars and their music, to which Corden pays homage in the most adorable and respectful manner. However, every once in a while, the car they’re riding is the true star, and Corden may even let the celebrity drive it.
As for what he had in mind for the Kanye episode, to warrant a $45K bill, we can’t but speculate. But here’s to hoping the rapper will eventually keep his word on the appearance.
