E93 BMW M3 Convertible Drift Car Loses Its German V8 for a Supercharged LSX

Those of you who fancy extreme one-off contraptions that turn fast cars into amazingly quick machines should keep a close eye on the world of drifting.

Since sliding competitions across the world are on an increasing popularity trend, more and more drivers come up with slip angle-savvy vehicles that sweep us off our feet.

Case in point with the ex-generation BMW M3 Convertible in the video below. In the quest for tire smoke, the 4.0-liter naturally aspirated Bavarian V8 has been swapped with a 376ci (6.2-liter) LSX and that's not all. The GM heart of this Bimmer features a massive 4.5-liter Whipple blower, one that protrudes through the hood, reminding us of Mad Max's original Aussie muscle car.

However, the engine compartment is just a part of this E93 M3's aura. For one thing, once this Bimmer loses its top, the hefty rollcage makes the car look a bit like the M3 pickup truck one-off BMW built a few years ago.

The tire-slashing beast will be used by French drifter Benjamin Boubles, who has a loaded trophy cabinet, as we can see in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page.

Since this video represents the... Youtube shakedown of the M3, you should expect to see this thing being put to sideways work soon.

As for the trend mentioned in the intro of this article, other examples of such vehicles that have been wildly modified invite the rear-wheel-drive Audi R8 manhandled by Valentino Rossi's father.

As indicated by the image that shows up on the digital dash when the transformed M3 is fired up, Benjamin isn't at his first LSX-motivated BMW - the drifter used to do his thing in a 600 HP LSX-holding E36 3 Series. Now this is one unusual piece of tradition...
