One of either the best or the worst decisions that AMG has made in recent history was to introduce 4Matic all-wheel drive on its non-SUV products this year.
Time will tell if the decision was perceived as brand diluting or a scope enhancement, but skimming through the hundreds of AMG reviews this year we kind of think the Affalterbach nutters hit a home run.

There is a small problem though, because not all AMG non-SUV products with all-wheel drive are created equal.

The Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG for example comes with 4Matic in standard in the US, optional in Europe and doesn't even offer it in left-hand drive countries.

The E 63 AMG S-Model is even more peculiar, as it offers 4Matic all-wheel drive in standard in both continental Europe and the US, with left-hand drive countries being the only ones to get a rear-wheel drive version of this hardcore version.

This fact only makes the S-Model even more insane, as no less than 585 hp (577 bhp) and 800 Nm (590 lb ft) of torque have to make way to the asphalt through just two patches of tires instead of four.

What is like to live with such immense power in a station wagon and with the steering wheel on the right, you ask? Well, Piston Heads recently had a go in a Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG S-Model Estate with RHD and lived enough to write a review about it.
