File this under: celebrities tend to do the strangest things, for the strangest of reasons. Dwight Howard, for instance, turned one of his expensive rides purple inside and out because he sort of looks up to Thanos from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Yes, that would be the same Thanos that sought to destroy the Earth and every other planet in the universe just because he was on a power trip. The NBA player, however, chooses not to focus on the negative, drawing instead inspiration from the fictional character in terms of drive and motivation.
Howard invited sportsperson interviewer Graham Bensinger into his huge mansion for a tour much like we used to see on the now-defunct Cribs. The entire tour is also available in the video at the bottom of the page. He showed Bensinger around on the outside and then took him indoors to brag about his impressive snake collection.
Then, in the garage, he made the surprise disclosure: the reason his Rolls-Royce Ghost was purple was because he was an “Avengers” fan. More or less.
“I got this purple car because of Thanos, from the Avengers. Yeah, he’s my favorite character,” Howard says in his typically chill manner. “He was able to understand that in order for him to complete his mission, he had to get rid of his emotions, and that’s the hardest thing that we all face.”
This seems like a strange reason to deck your car in purple both inside and out, but to each their own. Howard is one of the most legendary NBA players and he’s paid accordingly. With an estimated net worth of $140 million, he can definitely afford to switch colors on his expensive rides whenever he sees fit.
And he has plenty of expensive rides, in case you’re wondering: Howard also owns a Conquest Knight XV armored truck, a Ferrari FF, a Bentley Mulsanne, and a Porsche Panamera.
