Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) have announced today that Duran Duran will headline the unveiling of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 / Miata during a live event to take place in Monterey, California, on the 3rd September. The event will be available globally on the company’s YouTube channel.
It’s all about having a celebrity promoting your car nowadays. Whether we’re talking about turning them into brand ambassadors, having them hosting auto events or just getting the ride to appear in new videos, marketing new cars is all about the famous people. And the Japanese automaker knows that, of course. So they’ve decided to bring up the big guns for their newest model.

According to the press release, Mazda will hold simultaneous global reveals in Tokyo, Barcelona and Monterey. U.S- based fans can tune-in on the company’s YouTube channel starting at 6:00 PM (PDT) on Wednesday, September 3 to watch the live reveal of the MX-5, as well as Duran Duran’s performance.

Having a history of three decades and over 100 million records sold, Duran Duran is one of the bands that never seized to reinvent itself, always approaching new forms of combining art, fashion, technology and pop music.

The band is not at its first collaboration with the Japanese company. “Duran Duran and the MX-5 / Miata both made their world debuts in the 1980s and captured the hearts and imagination of an entire generation,” said Russell Wager, vice president of Marketing, MNAO.

After 25 years of existence, the MX-5 model is the best-selling two-seat roadster of all time, so it was only natural Mazda would prepare something special for the official unveiling of their new baby. Mazda has also partnered with Fashion Rocks, which will celebrate “the powerful relationship between fashion and music” with a live broadcast on CBS on Tuesday, September 9.
