Here’s a story that is bound to restore your faith in humanity: a 20-year-old man lost his wallet on a Frontier Airlines flight from Las Vegas and the person who found it made sure to put a little extra cash inside.
Hunter Shamatt had traveled to Las Vegas for his sister’s wedding, his own mother says in a post on Facebook. On the flight home, he lost his wallet while still on the plane. It didn’t have a fortune inside, but he would have liked it back, she said.
The wallet contained Hunter’s ID, $60 in cash, a debit card and a signed paycheck. His mother reached out to friends and strangers on Facebook, in the hope that someone would retrieve the wallet and make sure he got it back. They also contacted Frontier Airlines to ask for help, but they were told no one had turned a lost wallet after that flight.
To the family’s surprise, a couple of weeks later (meaning, the other day), a packet arrived at the home. Inside, they found the wallet with the ID, the debit card and the paycheck, and the cash – with a little something on the side. It also contained a handwritten note, signed with just the initials, which explained the extra dough.
“Found this on a Frontier flight from Omaha to Denver-row 12, seat F wedged between the seat and wall,” the note said. “Thought you might want it back. All the best. PS: I rounded your cash up to an even $100 so you could celebrate getting your wallet back. Have fun!!!”
The good Samaritan was eventually ID-ed as Todd Brown, a father of 5 who found the wallet when he tried to fasten his seatbelt. He tells Yahoo! that he saw Hunter was 20 years old and remembered what it’s like to be this young and cash-strapped. So, he really wanted to give the kid something with which he could celebrate getting his wallet back.
“I was 20 once and that’s a lot of money for a kid,” he says. “I wanted to have a little fun, I wanted him to have a little fun. I imagined what it would be like to get your wallet back, so I added a little bit so he could celebrate.”
Mission: accomplished.
