Ducati's latest contribution to the powercruiser scene, the XDiavel S, was rewarded with one of the most prestigious awards, the Red Dot Award 2016: Best of the Best in the Product Design category.
The Ducati XDiavel S was the winner among around 5,000 other products, and a jury of 40 renowned international experts agreed that this bike deserved this coveted prize. We remind you that the Red Dot Award is one of the most prestigious design awards in the world, handed to deserving products that set an example of creativity and innovation.

Ducati will receive this prestigious award at the Red Dot Award Gala that will be held in Essen, Germany, at the Aalto Theater on July 4, 2016.

The XDiavel S is a bold step from the Diavel platform, but it takes the model into a direction that's entirely new for Ducati. We spoke with Stefano Tarabusi, the Product Manager for the XDiavel S, and he told us that the goal of this model is to offer a particular experience to the riders, one that is different from what the other similar bikes in the market offer.

"On the tech side, the XDiavel is a machine that has nothing to do with anything else this segment can offer now," Tarabusi told us. "It's a real Ducati. On one side, we wanted to create a real cruiser with forward controls, belt final drive, an engine that is very torquey and so predictable at low rpm and fun even at slow speed. On the other side, this is an authentic Ducati, exclusive and unique. You can recognize that this is a Ducati by looking at it alone, with the tank badge covered," added he.

The Diavel platform was updated with cruiser-specific controls that contribute to an entirely different attire from what Ducati fans are used to, but on the tech side, things are even wilder

Borgo Panigale used the Dual Valve Timing (DVT) engine for the XDiavel and XDiavel S machines. The variable timing allows the engine to behave differently in various scenarios. The peak power is 156 at 9500 rpm, but it's the way torque is deployed that makes a big difference.

The peak torque figure is 128.9 Nm (95 lb-ft) and is produced at 5,000 revs per minute. However, Mr. Tarabusi unveiled that the engine already produces 98 Nm (72.3 lb-ft) at 2,000 rpm, then this figure gradually grows towards the mentioned value. This makes the XDiavel behave like a cruiser at low speed and rpm, yet produce a mind-blowing explosion of grunt worthy of a sport bike in the high revs.

"Long, low-slung, muscular, with contemporary lines and sophisticated componentry. Above all sexy. On one hand the motorcycle’s design was inspired by the cruiser world, on the other hand, Ducati DNA. It drives the cruiser concept headlong into a modern context: a real 'Technocruiser' with futuristic styling and state-of-the-art technology. Extreme in its proportions, the XDiavel was deliberately design 'element by element'.

"If you observe each one individually, it is as if the frame, the fuel tank, the headlamp, the tailpiece and the silencer live a life of their own, yet at the same time, they go to make up a perfectly balanced, harmonious whole. A prize such as the Red Dot Award rewards Ducati’s creativity and innovation as much as it repays our tenacity in facing new challenges and venturing along new roads
," adds Andrea Ferraresi, Ducati Style Center Manager.
