Ducati will restore production of one of its most iconic and revered models, the SuperSport, the latest industry whispers at the World Ducati Week indicate. The new SuperSport will mark the return of the classic European sport bike, a motorcycle that can be ridden daily to work, providing a ton of excitement, too.
So far, we have no spy photo of the all-new SuperSport, but it will, reportedly, be a mixture of Monster 1200 and 959 Panigale. The former will lend its all-rounder attribute and overall rideability, whereas the latter will throw in the thrill-generating sportive character so many riders fell in love with.

The new Ducati SuperSport will be using the Hypermotard 939's Testastretta 11° 937cc liquid-cooled power plant. Already Euro 4-compliant, this powerplant will make 113 hp @ 9,000 rpm and a very pleasing 97.9 Nm (72.1 lb-ft) at 7,500 rpm, if left untouched.

We can also expect that Ducati retains the slipper clutch on the Hypermotard 939, but it looks like the exhaust will pay homage to the older machines and will be a 2-into-2, stacked shotgun unit resembling the one used in the current Monster family.

The bike will also retain the clip-on bars, albeit they will be raised to a more comfortable position. Reportedly, the SuperSport will also have a trademark banana seat similar to that of the older models, and a front end inspired by the Panigale family, as well. An adjustable windshield with solid touring capabilities also seems to be part of the standard trim.

This move is not a surprising one, as bike design evolved quite a bit in the decade that passed since the SuperSport series went out of production. Even though the SS machines still have an almost cult following, we just could not picture Ducati going with a retro-ish "face" for the revived SuperSport.

Early reports claim that the chassis is still a tubular trellis one, not unlike that of the Monster bikes, and that the fairing elements retain the fluid design of the older SuperSport semi-naked machines. This also leaves some room for further customization, and we're positive that third-party accessories, such as chins or more ample fairings will surface soon, especially from carbon fiber body kit specialists.

The price is said to be in the €14-15K range, with the SuperSport thus becoming a rival for the 959 Panigale, albeit the two machines have different purposes and address to rather different demographics. No news on when the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario will arrive in the dealerships, though.
