Ducati Monster Gets ABS in 2010

Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati recently revealed that its Monster 696cc model will get ABS for the entry-level version starting from 2010. This will make the Ducati Monster 696 the only model in the company’s current lineup to use anti-lock technology.

According to MCN, some documents leaked onto the Internet these days, showing that the new system will not bring any changes in the bike’s weight, but it could make it more expensive, boosting the price with about £300.

The last Ducati to get ABS was the touring ST4S, but the naked 696’s ABS isn’t expected to be switchable on and off, like the ST4S’s system, the aforementioned source reported.

The news somehow confirms that all major motorcycle manufacturers will begin introducing ABS in their bike’s configurations, as recent data confirmed that ABS-equipped Honda Fireblade and CBR600RR are high on demand among bike buyers.

Moreover, BMW launched this year the S 1000 R, reportedly being the lightest supersport machinery equipped with ABS. The German manufacturer also celebrated its millionth bike fitted with anti-lock brakes.

Nevertheless, the non-ABS version of the bike will continue to be available for purchasing. The Ducati Monster 696 is named after its 696cc displacement and features an L-twin dual-cylinder Desmodromic engine generating 80 hp at 9000 rpm.

It only weighs 161 kg and it is considered to be one of the most agile and light motorcycles in its class. The model is currently priced at £6195, and is available in silver, red, mate black and pearl white color schemes.
