Being able to anticipate the best and safest trajectory through a turn way ahead of properly entering it is a key asset when riding a motorcycle. Failure to properly determine one's trajectory through the approaching turn results in all sorts of crashes most of the times.
This unlucky fellow has just learned that his trajectory-anticipation skills need a lot of improvement, as himself comments that it's already been 4 weeks of rehab and still working to get his act together.
As far as I can tell, he went too early into the turn and got a bit scared as the turn was not exactly offering great visibility around the corner. Hitting what he though it was the apex of the curve way too soon, he then failed to force things a bit and remain as tight as he could, thus running wide into the ditch.
Being already almost halfway though, he could now see that the road was clear and could lean the bike into submission, most likely making it safe, though possibly in need on new underwear.
I hope this is a good lesson for other beginning riders, helping them avoid similar crashes.
