Ducati Makes Streetfighting Legal

No, it's not what you think, but we got your undivided attention now, right? Italian bike manufacturer is coming out with a new range of liquid-cooled bikes, as opposed to the air-cooled Monster series. This new range bears the name Streetfighter and the first model is already out on the tarmac.

The Streetfighter is powered by a 1099 cc V-Twin engine that pumps out 155 hp and has 85 lb-ft of torque and since the weight is kept to a minimum thanks to the naked design (thus named because it bears no metal parts to cover the engine).

It's been a while since anyone has attempted a naked bike but Ducati seems to have pulled it off with its new model frame. This is in fact more angular, which makes it look more aggressive. Straight lines that meet at steep angles make the monster series look rather docile when compared to the Streetfighter series.

The bike also features stacked exhaust, Showa suspension (Ohlins on the more expensive Streetfighter S) and Brembo monobloc calipers. While some of you might recognize the overall look, you wouldn't be far from the truth. This latest Ducati superbike is actually modeled from an older model, the 1098, just slightly modified.

Upgrades include a traction control system which is active from the get-go, a major bonus point since even the expensive 1098R requires a race ECU and exhaust before its TC kicks in. It also features a data collecting system under the seat, basically a USB port in which you can plug your computer.

There are several models already available in the series, but prices are expected to be around 11,900 pounds. Those of you thinking to make a reservation already might want to wait around for a bit as the first bikes will arrive later in 2009.
