Ducati Hits Millionth-Bike Milestone with Monster 1200S Machine

The 1,000,000th Ducati rolled off the production line, marking a historical milestone in the existence of the Italian maker. The millionth bike was a Monster 1200S machine, and it was actually already handed overto its customer in a special ceremony. The celebrations of this amazing milestone have been attended by Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali and two Audi top-hats, Prof. Rupert Stadler (Audi Group CEO) and Luca De Meo (Member of the Board for Marketing and Sales, Audi AG).

Mr. Domenicali has personally handed the bike to its new owner, Ernesto Passoni, a long-time Ducati fan and rider. Passoni, 47, had ordered his new Monster 1200S only to be informed later that his bike is the millionth Ducati manufactured and he was going to take part in a very special event.

The Monster delivered in the Audi City Lab, the exclusive temporary show room for Xmas

The unique Monster 1200S received a special laser marking on the upper handlebar clamp which testifies the uniqueness and importance of the bike. Mr. Passoni was invited at the Audi City Lab downtown Milan to receive the bike from Claudio Castiglioni himself, in the presence of media and Audi officials.

“Between 1946 and today we have designed, built and delivered one million dreams that have become reality to Ducatisti. Our strength is in the exceptional work that all of the Ducati employees carry out so efficiently on a daily basis, contributing to making our bikes beautiful, unique and desirable. To deliver the millionth bike produced directly into the hands of a passionate Ducatista is an incredible feeling and an incentive to continue along our growth path,” CEO Claudio Domenicali told to the audience.

145 horsies of naked fun

The Monster series has started back in 1992, with the first bike showed at the Cologne trade show, and quickly becoming one of the best-selling Ducati machines. The simple, naked attire of the Monster series and the iconic exposed trellis frame have become trademarks of the Borgo Panigle bikes, while the Monster is one of the most recognized motorcycles in modern history.

Ducati has launched the 1200 at EICMA 2013 in Milan, with the base model becoming the Most Beautiful Bike in the show. The 1200 series is powered by the 1198cc Testastretta 11° DS engine, derived from the Superbike and is equipped with the company’s latest technologies, such as 8 levels of traction control, 3 levels of ABS and 3 levels of Ride-by-Wire, linked to the Ducati Riding Modes. The S version packs 145 hp, while the base model only has 135 horsies.
