Two earthquakes have hit Italy within the last two weeks, a magnitude 6.0 tremor which hit Northern Italy on May 20th, was followed today by a slightly milder 5.6 magnitude earthquake. Sadly, these two events have caused the death of 15 people so far, and have almost destroyed the small town of Cavezzo, a town of around 7,000 inhabitants.
Another negative aspect caused by the earthquakes is the closing, today, of the Ducati factory in Bologna, after it sustained damage during the second earthquake. The plant was expected to be closed after the first one hit on the 20th, but apparently everything was intact after it was through, so production was resumed. However, today’s tremor has managed to disrupt their supply chains - a bad thing considering that Ducati only hold a small number of parts in stock and need constant supply in order for production to keep rolling.
With production stopped, whatever damage has been made will be assessed and repaired, but with no clear date when production is set to resume. According to their Facebook page, they stated that “Today Ducati is closed for the earthquake. People are ok we are verifing the factory. We feel very close to all people and families that live near here for this difficult moment.”
