Ducati Confirms Hayden for 2010

Nicky Hayden's podium performance at Indianapolis seems to have made quite an impression on the Ducati officials last weekend. Following his strong run before a home crowd, the North American rider was confirmed for another season with the Italian manufacturer's works team.

The announcement was made via a press release on Ducati's official site on Thursday. According to Claudio Domenicali, Ducati Motor Holding Manager, Hayden's impressive progress throughout the 2009 campaign – when he evolved from points contender to podium contender by mid-season – is proof enough that the Kentuckian will have a successful campaign next year.

We have always considered Nicky to be an important asset to the Ducati 2010 strategy and we are very happy that he will remain in the Ducati Marlboro Team. His progression through the season has been constant up to the podium in Indianapolis and we are certain that the experience he has gained will be decisive for a 2010 season full of success,” said Domanicali.

Hayden scored points in all races in 2009 but one – when he crashed out in the Japanese Grand Prix – but showed some remarkable progress at the helm of the GP9 through the second part of the season. He is currently 12th overall in his maiden year with Ducati – having switched from Honda last year – only 6 points behind the Top 10.

After the good result in Indy, now to renew the deal with Ducati is exactly what I wanted. I’m very happy. I always had faith and believed that we could achieve good results. I’m excited for these last five races of the 09 season, and if you look at the progression we have made from the start of the season to the middle, hopefully we will continue this through to the end,” said the 2006 MotoGP champion.

I just wish to say a big thanks to all the guys who made this happen, especially everybody in Ducati as well as all our sponsors and I’m sure I’ll be able to do a good job next year and to continue to build with, and be part of, the Ducati family,” added Hayden.
