Ducati Celebrates Their 90th Anniversary with a Round-the-World Motorcycle Trip

Exactly nine decades after its founding, Ducati will send seven bold globetrotters and their all-new Multistrada 1200 Enduro on a round-the-world trip to mark the anniversary. Applications for the globetrotter positions are now open.

Ducati was founded on July 4, 1926, and it's exactly on the same day in July 2016 when this trip will start, taking seven daring riders on the adventure of a lifetime that spans for more than 30,000 km (18,650 miles).

This "red flame" trip will begin, obviously, in Borgo Panigale, in front of Ducati's headquarters, then head east across Europe, following the legendary Trans-Siberian route, taking in Russia, Mongolia, China and then Japan.

The bike will be flown across the Pacific and will then cross the United States before getting on another plane that will take it to Western Europe and back to Bologna. The estimated return day is December 15, 2016.

This epic journey will be divided into seven stages, and seven riders selected by Ducati will complete each of them. Needless to say, Ducati will be looking for the most experienced of applicants, riders with excellent long-distance skills, good English, a natural gift for storytelling, in written and in photographic form.

"Bloggers or travellers used to writing and talking about their experiences on both traditional and social media, people with a talent for sharing their experiences, emotions and passion for adventure" are also interesting choices for Ducati, a press release informs.

From all the applicants, Ducati will choose 14 finalists. These fellows will then undergo a second screening that will evaluate their riding skills. Also a psycho-aptitude test will be taken. The final selection will be supervised by Ducati's former Paris-Dakar racer Beppe Gualini, the very head of the DRE Enduro training program.

One of the duties of the seven globetrotters will be to bear the "Ducati torch," a "special flame designed by the Ducati Style Center and a fitting symbol for that passion which burns so bright in Ducati."
