Ducati 2012 Superbike Name Revealed: 1199 Panigale [Video Teaser]

Ducati has chosen to start the teasing of its 2012 Superbike with the name of the machine, telling us that it will use the 1199 Panigale designation and also giving us a teaser video, which shows the racer in its development phase.
The 1199 Panigale, which, by the way, is pronounced “Pan-ee-gah-lee”, doesn’t follow Ducati’s Superbike tradition, as it ads a name to its 1199cc engine capacity. The designation comes from the Borgo Panigale area of Bologna, Italy, which is Ducati’s home town.

Here’s what the company has to say about this region: “In an Italian territory known as “Motor Valley” and where high performance and racing runs through the veins of its passionate people, Ducati now underline their pride in being world ambassadors for the “Made in Italy” title by immortalizing their home town in the name of the new Superbike.

The Ducati 1199 Panigale will make its racing debut in the 2012 FIM Superstock Championship and subsequently enter the World Superbike 2013.

The two-stage introduction enables Ducati additional development for the Superbike version of the 1199 Panigale, appropriate to the more open regulations of the World Superbike category, and in addition help control costs for World Superbike teams who can continue to compete with a 2012 version of the 1198 with technical support from Ducati Engineers,” a company statement explains.
