Here’s one more take on the acclaimed Ducati 1199 Panigale, this time from Ulfert Janssen of Gannet Design. While the 1199 Panigale is usually associated with high-performance sport motorcycles and their derivatives, Ulfert’s proposal takes things to a completely new level, packing together elements other two different worlds: the café-racer design and the fighter DNA.
We’ve seen how interesting can café’d Panigale look, as the Moto Puro 1199 beast we showed to you in early June is a landmark in this direction. However, while the Dutch 1199 Panigale dropped almost all the modern elements, replacing them with retro accents, the Gannet bike is all modern.
Ulfert Janssen goes for a mix of café and fighter, hence the café-fighter name. The rear section of the bike was removed and a solo seat is all that remains, providing an exceptionally aggressive riding stance and matching looks. The underbelly volume enhances the visual balance of the Panigale, stressing out the centralized mass of the bike. It may have something in common with the Lotus C-01, but the smooth, fluid lines are sportier.
The tank is the original 1199 unit, but the paint was stripped off it and replaced with a brushed metal livery in the same unforgiving red nuance, matched by the rim stripes, engine block color and other accents, such as the spring of the offset rear shock and the top-fork adjusters. The decorative element which shrouds the tank helps redefining the entire design of the bike. Add in a Monster-esque headlight for an even more classic attire, with the tail lights possibly integrated into the seat for a compact look.
All the add-ons are made from carbon fiber, either painted or left in its natural cross-woven texture. Since a lot of the original 1199 Panigale bodywork is gone, and the rear subframe is also much smaller, the Gannet Design 1199 Café-Fighter is also much lighter and riding it should be a more exhilarating look. This modding kit is feasible and some skilled carbon fiber parts manufacturer should not have too much of a hard time making it…
