The announcement was made at the Abu Dhabi Ascent conference (ADSC) on climate change, in May, and the rally will be the first green-car competition ever organized in UAE. The event is going to be hosted by Dubai’s renewable energy company, Masdar, and will feature futuristic vehicles designed and driven by students.

According to Dr Nabih Bedewi, the ADSC event director, the eco cars are not being made for commercial purposes, but for educational and technological ones. 20 of the top universities car teams from Australia and Europe, to Asia and America were already invited to join the competition.

Built by several participants from all over the world, the 20-solar powered cars will race the 745 miles (1,200 km) track for a better and healthier Earth. Moreover, the petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi will also be taking part of the competition.

According to The Mangalore Times, the deadline for teams’ registration is August 1st. The solar high-tech solar cars will be closely examined on January 13-14, followed by a qualifying round on January 15 and a four-day race through Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Liwa. The race will finish in Abu Dhabi on the last day of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

All things taking into account, it's only natural for us to wonder if UAE's petrol deposits are running low. If that would be the case, switching to solar-powered vehicles will probably be the best choice they can make.
