For one of the biggest heavy trucks manufacturers in the world, being number one comes as a natural state. And if your name is Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), being number one is also a must.
The manufacturer announced today its sales figures for the past year, with numbers showing exactly what they should show: DTNA is the biggest player on the American market and in the NAFTA region.
2010 brought, together with recovery, a sales figure of 67,800 units for DTNA, a number which boosted the market share of the truck maker to 31.6 percent, up two percent compared to the year before. The company is the market leader in the segment for heavy-duty trucks of Classes 6 – 8. The same can be said for Class 8 trucks, with DTNA being market leader here as well.
“Our sales success in 2010 exceeded the market development. Whereas the results for the market as a whole were only slightly better than those for the crisis year 2009, Daimler benefited from the very high degree of customer acceptance of our tried and tested BlueTec exhaust technology,” said Martin Daum, DTNA CEO.
And DTNA does not plan to stop here. Last year, in June, the truck maker announced to start of a $200 million investment program for the Redford, Michigan facility, meant to boost the production of engines and further develop the truck maker’s BlueTec technology.
The upgraded plant, whose development is supported by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, will be completed and ready to roll out an increased number of engines in September this year.
