Taking hints from the AMG Line, S-Line and M Sport package, French automaker DS Automobiles has launched the DS Performance Line, which is said to "combine the spirit of the GT with refinement and the latest DS brand technologies."
It's available for both DS3 body styles, the DS4 hatch and DS5 MPV. However, the DS Performance Line does slightly different things for the last two. The reason is that for the DS3 models, the company could just take the bumper from the real DS3 Performance and install it. The other two don't hot derivatives, so they had to make due with color tricks.
Performance Line models all get a contrasting black roof in combination with several body colors (seven for New DS3, six for New DS4, and five for DS5). They also receive new large gloss black alloy wheels that feature the DS logo set against a Carmine Red background on the center cap. Also, the front doors and hood are adorned with special new ‘DS Performance Line’ badges.
The models have an exclusive interior as well, which features overstitching with black Dinamica cloth, or a choice of two grades of leather. The same treatment also applies to the door cards, steering wheel, and gearshift lever. There is metallic detailing within the cabin, including chrome inserts on the steering wheel and door sill. And finally, DS Performance Line models all get LED ambient lighting to illuminate the cabin.
When the DS Performance Line models go on sale (a month from now), they will be available with a choice of familiar engines. For the DS3 models, that means two versions of the 1.2-liter turbo (110 and 130 PS) and two of the 1.6 diesel (100 and 120 PS). The DS4 and DS5 aren't as restrictive when it comes to power, as they have access to the 210 PS version of the 1.6-liter turbo. However, we'd pick the 2.0 BlueHDI with 180 PS, since it's available with a 6-speed automatic and packs 400 Nm of torque, the same as the 308 GT.
The new trim level will sit between Elegance and Prestige in the DS lineup. Nobody actually knows what that means, so we'll just point out that in Britain prices are due to start from £17,900, £21,600 and £30,000 for the respective models.
