After becoming Europe’s leading multi-energy brand back in 2020 thanks to having the lowest average CO2 emissions (83.1g/km), DS Automobiles is now looking to ditch internal combustion engines altogether in order to become a fully electric carmaker starting in 2024.
They’ve been walking this path for some time now, seen as how every DS model is currently offered with an electrified power unit. There’s the fully electric DS 3 Crossback E-Tense, plus the plug-in hybrid DS 4 E-Tense, DS 7 Crossback E-Tense, and DS 9 E-Tense. From 2024, a 100% electric version of the DS 4 will also join the range, followed by a brand-new design in the form of Stellantis’ first fully electric project, based on the new STLA Medium platform.

This “project” will involve a high-capacity battery with up to 104 kWh for a range of 435 miles (700 km), which should eliminate any range anxiety buyers might have.

Before making this full electric switch, DS will continue its involvement in Formula E, where it has already won two consecutive Teams’ and Drivers’ titles. This is partly why it has renewed its participation until 2026, and development for a new generation of superior single-seater race cars is underway.

“The car industry is experiencing a change whose breadth and speed are unprecedented. As a pioneer, DS Automobiles has anticipated this move, with electrification at the center of its strategy. The next developments in legislation and the EV ecosystem provide opportunities that we want to offer to our customers who already like our electrified range. I took the decision to speed up the development to create a new 100% electric art of travel, desirable in terms of enjoyment and remarkable in terms of quality and performance; a new art of travel, steadfastly high tech and still just as refined. It is a daring plan that will take shape from 2024,” said DS Automobiles CEO, Beatrice Foucher.

Just yesterday, DS launched its fourth model in the DS 4 C-segment crossover. Before the electric version comes out in 2024, buyers can still enjoy the plug-in hybrid model, featuring a total system output of 225 hp and an average EV range of 34 miles (55 km) as per WLTP readings.
