Citroen might not make exciting sportscars or twin-turbo V8 thrusters, but they do know how to make a nice interior that's different. We saw that with the DS5 and we're seeing it again with the first-ever SUV model belonging to the DS brand.
Not something we'll be seeing any time soon in Europe (or America for that matter), the 6WR is a new French product inspired by the DS Wild Rubis Concept shown at the Beijing Auto Show a few years back and is designed to appeal to posh Chinese customers.
Citroen really has thrown everything at its first SUV, including the funky ribbed seats that look like well defined musculature and lots of beige leather. Chrome trim is copiously applied together with red LED interior lighting.
These photos have been shown ahead of the SUV's official debut in September. Production will take place locally and a sales network of 60 dealers has already been established. The design was created in France and is hoped to appeal to Audi Q3 drivers.
The 6WR is 4.55 meters long, 1.86 meters wide and 1.61 meters tall, with a 2.73-meter wheelbase and 19-inch alloy wheels. Despite its relatively bulky size, all-wheel drive is not offered, instead replaced with the Grip Control system from the Peugeot 2008. Power will be provided by familiar 1.6 turbo called e-THP 160 and THP 200 and mated exclusively to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
We talked about this before, but some of you might to be aware about this very interesting fact yet. PSA announced a full restructuring plan two months ago under which Peugeot, Citroen and DS are separate brands. All will have niches to fill and all will have to offer products that are relevant on the global market.
Judging by that statement, we'd wager that the DS 6WR or a car just like it will also be sold closer to hope, given that no European brand can possibly survive without an SUV.
