One family dispute turned deadly when the wife tried to flee the husband, but then changed her mind and rammed him to death with their pickup truck. Alcohol and drugs were a contributing factor, court documents reveal.
A 22-year-old South Carolina woman named Taylor Louise Bright was sentenced to 12 years in jail this week, for the January incident in which she killed her husband under the terrified gaze of their child, People Crime confirms.

According to the police report and court documents, the couple had been fighting on the day of the incident. There was a history of domestic dispute with these two, but never anything so serious.

The woman was “legally intoxicated” and she’d also smoked pot, which may have made the altercation escalate. At one point, Bright, who was also pregnant at the time, got behind the wheel of the family’s pickup truck and pinned the husband under it.

She then drove 1,600 feet with him under the car, causing him fatal chest and abdominal injuries. She entered a guilty plea and was charged with and sentenced for reckless homicide and unlawful neglect of a child. The couple’s 4-year-old girl was in the car when all this happened.

Bright got 10 years for the homicide charge and 2 years for the latter, and will be another 5 years on probation after she’s released from prison.

In a statement to the media, prosecutor David Wagner praised the police for helping “secure a guilty plea deal in this case,” but stressed that, in this particular situation, there were no winners – only losers, and they’re both underage.

“This case is a senseless tragedy that has forever impacted the lives of two families,” Wagner said. “Taylor Bright’s toxic combination of anger, alcohol and motor vehicles has left two children to grow up without either parent.”
