Drunk Irish Woman Rages on Air India Flight When She’s Refused More Wine

Never stand between a drunk woman and her tiny bottle of wine. Cabin crew and fellow passengers in business class on an Air India flight traveling from Mumbai to London’s Heathrow Airport were verbally and physically assaulted by a drunk Irish woman claiming to be a hot-shot attorney.

Video of the incident from November 10, as shot by one of the cabin crew, is now making the rounds online. The woman was arrested when the plane landed and charged with racially aggravated public order, common assault and drunk and disorderly, and is now being investigated.

A fragment of the video is also available at the bottom of the page. Times of India has the rest, together with details providing context for such a strange outburst. Apparently, the woman started downing bottles of wine the moment the plane was up in the air.

At one point, she headed to the toilet in economy class and emerged from there “in a cloud of smoke.” Since that didn’t trigger the smoke alarm, she came back to her seat, where she continued to drink red wine.

Since serving alcohol to passengers is limited only by the flight attendant’s common sense, when they saw that she was severely intoxicated, they refused to bring her more. That’s when she flew into a temper and went barefoot to the galley to confront whoever came across her.

Times of India says she also spat in the face of a female attendant and twisted her arm, causing injury. She laughed when she received a written note from the captain, and launched into a tirade about how she was an international lawyer, a human rights lawyer, a barrister and a proponent of the “boycott movement” with connections to the Irish Republican Army.

In between threatening attendants to have them sued or shot, the woman returned to her seat, where she turned her attention to her fellow passengers. She expressed disbelief that they didn’t have the balls to “stand up to the injustice” of not being served more wine while in business class, and lashed out when one woman urged her to sit down because she was “pathetic.”

Police have confirmed the woman’s arrest but would not make public her identity. Air India says their crew acted appropriately given the situation.
