This is what you call catching two birds with just one stone. Police in Ontario, Canada, were able to arrest 2 drunk drivers in a very short timeframe, after one came to pick up the other after his arrest.
It happened last weekend, in Leeds County. During a routine traffic stop, 24-year-old Michael Truelove got busted for driving under the influence, was arrested and taken in for processing – and a night’s worth of R&R in police custody.

So far, nothing out of the ordinary. The next day, however, a pal came to pick Truelove up, Lake88 says, citing the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and he too got busted for driving impaired. It looks like the first drunk driver had to hitchhike his way home, because he was left without a chauffeur.

“When the accused was picked up from detachment the morning of September 22, 2019, the driver, a 25 year old of Rideau Lakes Township was found to be under the influence of alcohol,” the report says. “A roadside approved screening device was utilized and two charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act including novice driver with a Blood Alcohol Level above zero and driving while under suspension. The vehicle was impounded for seven days. The name of the second driver has not been released.”

While such a double DUI bust is rare, it’s not unheard of, which confirms what we’ve known all along: drunk people tend to do the dumbest, most unexplained things. When they’re at the wheel, their dumb choices, while apparently hilarious, also carry serious dangers for other motorists and pedestrians.

Another example of stupidly drunk behavior at the wheel came last month from a woman in Utah, who called 911 to report having seen a drunk driver on the road. Asked to give the license plate of the car of the suspected impaired driver, she gave her own. Yes, she was drunk and, yes, she reported herself to the police – though, we might add, she didn’t do it out of a sense of civic duty but because she thought it was hilarious.
