Most people tend to turn away whenever they see something illegal and potentially dangerous taking place, lest they are directly involved.
This was clearly not the case with this man, who’s now being hailed a hero on social media. A bit of CCTV footage dated August 6 has popped up online on a Facebook page called UK Motorcycle Theft Protest Community, set up with the goal of targeting moped crime in Britain.

The video shows a couple of moped thieves stopping to steal a bike parked neatly between 2 larger vehicles, as they’re confronted and later sent running by the driver of what appears to be a Ford Fiesta. The vigilante’s actions, though illegal in their own right, were necessary to stop the theft.

The couple of thieves are seen rolling past the bike and returning minutes later to try to steal it. The Ford Fiesta pulls over and the driver steps out of the car to confront them. He gets into a heated exchange with one of the thieves and is forced back into the car.

You would think that would be the end of it. Well, you would be wrong.

Seconds later, one of the thieves gives up trying to steal the bike and goes back to the moped, which is now sitting in the middle of the road. It’s then that the Ford Fiesta starts backing into the moped at high speed. One of the suspects runs on foot and the other jumps out of the car’s way just seconds before impact, so neither was hurt.

Not the same goes for their moped, which they leave on the road so they can escape uncaught. The Ford driver gets out of the car to inspect it, and is then seen making a call – presumably to the police.

“What a hero! Two moped criminals stopped by a heroic civilian, watch until the end,”
the caption of the video reads. “Whoever you are, on behalf of the biking community. Thank you! You deserve a medal. That's the spirit.”

Moped crime in the UK is at its highest ever, with police admitting publicly on more than one occasion that they are overwhelmed and outmanned.
