Here’s something you don’t see that often: police in Orange County, California, arrested a driver under the influence of drugs after he tried to fix 2 flat tires on his broken-down car using Band-Aids and gauze.
Spoiler alert: he wasn’t able to fix them.
It happened this week, on an empty road, after the driver lost control of his Mercedes Benz SUV and went off the road. According to a Facebook post by the Mission Viejo Police Services, an “alert” citizen noticed something strange about a man sitting next to his broken-down car and he called 911.
When the officers arrived at the scene, they found the dude, identified only as a 26-year-old man, on his butt, trying to fix no less than 2 flat tires using medical supplies. The photos included with the post confirm the story: it seems like he tried shoving gauze into a gaping hole in one of the tires, while trying to cover another with Band-Aids.
“When deputies arrived, they noticed both of the driver’s side tires were flat and the 26 year old man was trying to use gauze and Band-Aids to repair his tires,” the caption to the pictures reads. “He was arrested for being under the influence of drugs and taken to jail.”
“This is another great example of the teamwork between our alert community and your deputies! Keep calling in suspicious activity to keep our city safe!” the post continues.
Because this is a strange type of DUI, comments on the police post range from mildly funny to hilarious. One person notes that the driver was using generic band-aids, which is why his efforts failed; only the real Band-Aids could have worked. Another imagines the next similar arrest, in which the suspect is caught trying to inflate a tire with his mouth, while another notes this was a problem only Flex Tape could have solved.
