This beats Tracy Morgan’s Bugatti crash: a driver from Canada got to enjoy his supercar for only 10 minutes before the cops had it impounded because he was speeding.
A 39-year-old man whose identity hasn’t been made public had just picked up his brand-new 2019 McLaren 600LT and took it out for a spin when, 10 minutes into the ride, he got pulled over. He was doing 161 kmh / 100 mph in a 90 kmh / 55 mph zone on Highway 1, the Vancouver Sun reports.
Cops handed him a ticket and had his supercar impounded for 7 days. The incident also rose the premium on his insurance, but we’re assuming getting to drive his new car for a mere 10 minutes is what stung the most. Well, at least he got to have a taste of what it could do before temporarily saying goodbye to it.
“While the officer was conducting the investigation, the driver allegedly stated that they had just left the dealership after purchasing the vehicle, 10 minutes prior,” West Vancouver Police Department says in a statement.
“While we get closer to the July long weekend, which typically means more vehicles on the road, West Vancouver Police want to remind everyone to obey all speed limits and drive responsibly,” the statement continues. “Your life is worth it.”
Earlier this month, comedian Tracy Morgan made headlines for getting into an accident in his 2012 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport about 30 minutes after driving it off the car dealership lot. He got sideswiped by a Honda and understandably flew into a rage: he had the right of way when the other driver (a woman) slammed into his new $2 million car.
According to reports, the damage to the Bugatti will probably translate into a $200,000 loss, part of which Morgan will have to cover regardless if he decided to keep or re-sell the car.
At $240,000, the McLaren 600LT is cheap by comparison. But at least it wasn’t damaged in the incident.
