A Nebraska man gave police officers a world of trouble after he flipped his car and decided he wouldn’t linger around until the cops came.
An innocent frog also became involved in the incident at some point, with the driver threatening to harm it while holding it hostage. Yes, you read that right: a frog was held hostage by a possibly drunk driver.

It all happened in Nebraska, south of Hershey and then in North Platte. The driver flipped his car on a road near Hershey and called the cops to report it. He also told them he wouldn’t be there when they arrived, but failed to explain why.

Instead, he hitched a ride with another car, the North Platte Post reports, citing police documents. From inside the vehicle, he placed another call to 911 to say that deputies shouldn’t try to track him down or he would have to become physically aggressive towards them.

He was determined to keep his promise. Deputies tracked him down in North Platte, pulling the car over. This is when a stand-off between driver and cops began, with the poor frog getting caught in the middle of it.

“The Driver, who was now a passenger, jumped out and began yelling at the lone Deputy,” the report says. “The Driver reached down and picked up a frog and wanted to hand it to the Deputy. He changed his mind and began shouting he was holding the innocent frog hostage, as well as yelling threats at the Deputy.”

A North Plate police officer also arrived on scene and tried to assist the deputy in detaining the suspect, who was now “throwing paper and trash” at both, still holding the frog. After several failed attempts, the deputy tasered the driver and handcuffed him.

Police suspect drugs or alcohol might have been involved, which would explain for his out of the ordinary behavior. Worry not, the frog is ok.
